MIRI FAJTA / documentary
directed by Martin Chlup, Petr Kačírek
documentary film
now in post-production
running time: 65 minutes
year of production: 2020
A disparate amateur group of Roma create the family sitcom Miri Fajta (translation: "my family"). First they stage a theatre performance and after a series of successful revues they make a film version of it. The next step will be their own Roma television. This will create an original Roma culture and a role model for the younger generation. Will it find a regular audience?
Using a situational observational method, we follow the transformations of the documentary's characters - the sitcom's creators. They have to let go of their comfort, their secure relationships and create together with people they don't know what no Roma has ever tried before.
The time-lapse documentary was made between 2016 and 2019. The production of the film was supported by the South Moravian Film Foundation.

LAURA
directed by Martin Chlup, Petr Kačírek
mystery feature series
now in development
running time: 6 x 15 min
Laura (15) is a talented girl who is being prepared for the high school entrance exams by her Roma mentor and crime prevention assistant Honza (61). One day, however, she doesn't return home
and he starts looking for her. The trace leads to a blind Roma witch.
The story takes place in the Bronx area of Brno, which the viewer gets to know through Honza's search. He visits places associated with the microcosm of the socially depressed ghetto - a pawnshop, a park with prostitution, a pub, etc. The film presents in a non-idealised way that part of Romani everyday life that has been hidden from the Czech majority - the strong Romani spirituality.
The development of the script was supported by the South Moravian Film Foundation.
